Hyundai released a campaign film featuring the Ioniq 5 robotaxi. During the film, the robotaxi was put through a test which can be considered similar to a U.S. driver's licence test.
The Ioniq 5 was put through (and passed) the various public-level driving tests. The film shows the Ioniq 5 robotaxi maintaining control over its own speed, performing lane changes, and accurately obeying road signs including stopping at a stop sign and performing left turns. The film also showcased the IONIQ 5 reacting to potential hazards.
Beyond displaying the robotaxi's extensive abilities, the film captures the Ioniq 5's diverse use cases, showcasing the robotaxi navigating the Las Vegas Strip as well as the city's suburban areas.
Beyond proving its trustworthiness by successfully completing the tests, the film highlights how the Ioniq 5 robotaxi could improve accessibility for many, featuring a visually impaired woman, Pearl Outlaw, as she shares about the mobility limitations she faces due to her condition and how her visual impairment has hindered her from obtaining a driver's license. Thanks to the robotaxi, however, those with impairments like Pearl are able to independently travel without relying on others.
The robotaxi is the product of an extensive collaboration between Hyundai Motor Group and Motional, an autonomous driving technology developer, to develop advanced automotive platforms and self-driving technology.
