The Schumacher name will make a racing return to Formula One in 2021, after Haas signed Mick Schumacher - son of seven-time champion Michael Schumacher - on a multi-year deal. Schumacher, 21, will partner fellow Formula Two racer Nikita Mazepin in a new lineup for Haas F1, replacing Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen.
"I'm very pleased that we're able to confirm Mick Schumacher in our driver lineup for next season and I look forward to welcoming him into the team," said Haas Team Principal Guenther Steiner. "The Formula Two Championship has long served as a proving ground for talent to showcase their credentials and 2020's field has undoubtedly been one of the most competitive in recent seasons. Mick has won races, collected podiums and excelled against some pretty exceptional talent in 2020."
Ahead of his racing debut for the 2021 Formula One season, Schumacher began his preparations at a practice session with Haas at the 2020 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, followed with some end-of-season testing at the same track. He arrives in Formula One having won the Formula Three European Championship in 2018, clocking up eight victories, before joining the Ferrari Academy a year later and making his debut in Formula Two.
Mick will be the third member of the Schumacher family to race in Formula One, with Uncle Ralf - Michael Schumacher's brother - having started 180 races between 1997 and 2007, winning six of them. Michael is second on the all-time list for wins behind Lewis Hamilton, with 91 victories.
