  • Took the car to Kuala Lumpur. Was very impressed with the fuel consumption. Went to and fro with one full tank . The power is impressive. The handling is good for high speed cruising on sports mode. But comfort model is highly recommended for singapore usage.

  • The sales figure speaks everything. Many towkays or businessmen in Singapore love the new S-Class. More stylish and higher-tech than before, it is of no surprise why this is the most successful model.
Nothing to find fault on its interior and engine performance. I shall focus on the exterior design instead.
I believe Mercedes designer drew design cues from the 2nd-gen CLS-Class, especially its side profile, flowing downwards from the bonnet to the top of the rear wheel arches. Conventional design always have the side profile flowing upward instead. The other parts of the car are totally different from the previous model too, with more curvy headlamps and taillights. LEDs are standard for the car (including the interior). I particularly like the rear design of the car. The tail lights are placed towards the edges of the car, separating from the tailgate. This creates an nostalgic feel of old-Merz of the past.
The car in its standard bumpers is already good looking enough. Personally, I feel the AMG sports kit kind of feel out of place on the car. On the other hand, the standard bumpers, together with the 5-spoke 20-inch alloy rims (standard on the S500L), enhances the elegant and nostalgic feel of this limousine.
This is definitely the best-looking S-Class. In fact, it is so successful that the latest C-Class and the upcoming E-Class have similar design (same sausage, different length).
I wonder what can be improved on the next facelift model.

  • Quite an expensive class of car to own but well worth it with all the specs added to it the ability to monitor road terrain and adjust the suspension to road setting the car sees ahead make the ability for passengers in the car to not feel anything at all.

  • The new S class has outdone its capable predecessor. The interior design reeks of sheer quality and technology. Well designed LCDs for the instrument panel and the main central display are in the driver's line of sight and provide crisp graphics and information to the car's occupants.

» VERDICT

The new Mercedes-Benz S-Class simply cannot be overlooked. Even when at a standstill, the car gives the impression that it is about to burst into a sprint at any second.

Its exterior design is a union of stylish poise with sporty elegance. The highly-charged feature line, the three-dimensional radiator grille and the innovative headlamps and tail lamps employing cutting-edge LED technology are all characteristics of the high-tech nature of the S-Class and help to underline its position as one of the world's leading saloons visually as well.

It's clear that Mercedes-Benz took the threat in the flagship segment seriously, considering the S-Class has been designed in such a way that will force brands like Audi, BMW and Jaguar back to their drawing boards.

100 years or so after the introduction of electric lighting in motor vehicles, Mercedes-Benz made a complete switch to LED technology and the new S-Class is the first vehicle in the world to do without a single light bulb, and this also sees Mercedes-Benz building on its pioneering role in the lighting sector.

Perfection to the last detail is particularly noticeable in the interior: whether it is the seats or the air-conditioning, the controls or the design, the infotainment or the comfort and safety in the rear. The essence of the atmosphere in the generously-sized cabin is all about feeling good, relaxing and being able to concentrate on work if required.

With a range of petrol, diesel and petrol-hybrid variants to choose from, one will be spoiled for choice when it comes to a drivetrain decision. Having tested the petrol-hybrid S400L and the S350L BlueTEC, it is safe to say that both complement the S-Class's refinement.

With Mercedes-Benz imparting all its know-how into the S-Class, we are not surprised it is head and shoulders above the rest of its class.
