In a sea of curvy SUVs, the Jaecoo J6 stands out for being unabashedly square. Its boxy design and unpainted lower plastic cladding give it the tough, off-roader vibe that suburbanites are drawn to. But Jaecoo also knows that these drivers don't want to sit in an interior that's as tough as the exterior.
That's why the designers wisely ensured that the cabin exudes cushiness. Apart from the leather upholstery, both the dashboard and centre console lid (which doubles as an armrest) are trimmed with soft materials. Access to the backseat is made more convenient by the doors that open nearly 90 degrees, and passengers will appreciate the flat floor and generous headroom.
The J6 makes you feel as if every drive is an adventure. Initially available as a Cat B model, the J6 delivers 205kW (275bhp) and 385Nm of torque, along with a zero to 100km/h time of 6.5 seconds. With all-wheel drive and a multitude of driving modes for various surfaces, the J6 can take on anything that a concrete jungle can throw at it.
Recognising that most drivers probably won't go off the beaten path, Jaecoo wisely added a Cat A model to the lineup. This rear-wheel drive variant has the same large battery and all the creature comforts of its sibling, making it even more attractive. If you want an adventure without leaving the city, this is the contender to consider.
