Volkswagen expands its crossover range with the T-Roc Cabriolet

Set to see its official presentation at the Frankfurt Motor Show, Volkswagen has premiered the new T-Roc Cabriolet, breathing fresh air into the SUV segment. The new open-top version of the T-Roc expands the range of the popular crossover model, adding yet more lifestyle to the booming SUV market.

The T-Roc Cabriolet - the first crossover cabriolet in the compact class - promises to deliver just the right combination of strikingly extroverted design, the raised seating characteristic of an SUV, and the high degree of flexibility and unique driving experience of a convertible.

Following the tradition of the Beetle and the Golf, the T-Roc Cabriolet likewise has a classic soft top. The standard fully automatic roof requires only nine seconds to open, and can do so and close even while the car is in motion, at speeds of up to 30km/h. The soft top is locked and unlocked using an electromechanical locking system, making the entire car top system fully automated, so no additional manual interventions need to be performed.

Passengers in the T-Roc Cabriolet are well-protected thanks to the roll-over protection, which is located behind the rear seats and is extendable and reversible. The system used in the T-Roc springs upwards in the area of the rear headrests within fractions of a second once a defined lateral acceleration or vehicle tilt is exceeded. Moreover, the T-Roc Cabriolet is designed for all-round maximum safety, with its reinforced windscreen frame and numerous structural modifications, such as in the underbody, side panels, cross members and doors.

Both driver and front passenger are seated at a comfortable 60cm above the tarmac in the T-Roc Cabriolet, and therefore can enjoy a great view. Inside the two door model, customers can also expect a high degree of flexibility and generous open spaces: The T-Roc Cabriolet sports a 284-litre luggage compartment, which is something to be proud of in the compact crossover segment.

Customers can choose between the 'Style' and 'R-Line' equipment packages. The Style specification package embodies a focus on design and individual flair, while the R-Line specification package is resolutely sports-oriented and incorporates the contents of the R-Line exterior and interior packages, which are offered as options for the T-Roc, as fixed elements. The R-line's sporty character is further emphasised by features such as fog lights, sports-tuned running gear and a progressive steering with speed-dependent steering control.

Two efficient turbo petrol engines will be offered: A 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine with an output of 112bhp, or a more powerful 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine with 148bhp. A manual six-speed gearbox comes as standard, although a seven-speed dual clutch gearbox will also available as an option for the four-cylinder.
