Marking a new stage in the development of the Renault 5 Turbo 3E, a modern, electric and exuberant reboot of the iconic Renault 5 Turbo and Turbo 2 of the 1980s, two prototypes made their public drives at the Tour de Corse rally.
Developed by Alpine, the Renault 5 Turbo 3E is based on a custom-built aluminium platform, optimised by carbon features including the top section of the bulkhead and part of the floor. The in-wheel motors at the rear provide 547bhp and a whopping 4,800Nm of torque. Traction is provided by the front and rear suspension with their double wishbone set-up.
The two prototypes were decked in both a black, yellow, and white livery and a red, blue, and white livery in tribute to both the Tour de Corse and the colours of the Maxi 5 Turbo that won the 1985 Tour de Corse respectively.
Featuring an all-carbon superstructure of less than 100kg, it completes the century sprint in under 3.5 seconds. With its 800V architecture, 70kWh battery, and onboard DC charger able to handle up to 330kW, it charges from 15-80% in just 15 minutes. Its standard WLTP range is projected to be higher than 400km.
Reservations for the Renault 5 Turbo 3E opened in April 2025, and it is currently available in Europe, the Middle East, Japan, and Australia. The next stage in early 2026 will be the car's personalisation phrase, allowing customers to create their own exterior and interior livery, before delivery commences in 2027.
Only 1,980 examples of the model will ever be built.
