Volkswagen has announced that it will be expanding the drive range of the best-selling Tiguan and Passat, as well as the new Tayron, with the most powerful turbocharged petrol engines (TSI), which will be coupled to the 4MOTION AWD as standard.
In addition to providing added safety and driving stability in all weather and road conditions, the AWD of all three models uses a 4MOTION clutch for power transmission to the rear axle, which is characterised by intelligent energy management; under normal driving conditions, only the front axle is powered, helping to save fuel. The AWD can also be engaged manually to have the best possible traction on snowy roads.
Furthermore, this combination of TSI and 4MOTION enables towing capacities of up to 2,200kg (Passat and Tiguan) and 2,500kg (Tayron with appropriate equipment).
Only the Tiguan and Tayron are available in the first TSI output level, which offers 201bhp and 320Nm of torque. It has a WLTP fuel consumption of 12.1km/l (depending on its product line and equipment), a top speed of more than 220km/h, and a century sprint timing of under 7.5 seconds.
The second TSI output level is the most powerful engine in the lineup, offering 262bhp and 400Nm of torque, with the latter being specifically adapted by Volkswagen engineers for use in the larger Tiguan, Tayron, and Passat models. In addition, as the most powerful four-cylinder TSI of these three product lines, it is always coupled with the R-Line specification.
