Toyota Auris gets a facelift and new hybrid version for 2010

Details are still scarce, but the official pictures released show that the new Auris gets a revised grille, reshaped front and rear bumpers, new headlamps, tail lights and alloy wheels plus a different bonnet design and new exterior mirrors with integrated turning signals.

Most importantly however, is the announcement of a new hybrid version of the Auris, which will look similar to the standard Auris, but will feature mild aerodynamic tweaks to improve efficiency. The Auris Hybrid Synergy Drive, to give its full name, will most likely share the same petrol-electric powertrain setup with the Prius.

Being a hybrid, the Auris is expected to be able to cruise at low speeds in pure electric mode while emitting zero emissions, which will expand its appeal to congested European cities. The facelifted Auris and new Auris hybrid is expected to be officially launched at March’s Geneva Motor Show.
