  • This two-seater GR Corolla Morizo Edition comes with Akio Toyoda's own mark of approval

Toyota's CEO Akio Toyoda leaves his signature on this two-seater GR Corolla Morizo Edition. Demand is so strong there's a lottery planned for reservations.

Toyota has upgraded the already rather hardcore GR Corolla with a new GR Corolla Morizo Edition.

The Toyota GR Corolla Morizo Edition, lighter, harder, and more optimised than the regular GR Corolla, takes after the pseudonym of CEO of Toyota Motor Corporation, Akio Toyoda. And the link is more than just in name: Toyota states its CEO was directly behind the wheel of the development prototypes of this limited edition.

The GR Corolla Morizo Edition gets wider tyres held by monotube shock absorbers to improve handling
Starting off the upgrades in the GR Corolla Morizo Edition is the removal of the car's rear seats, which is said to save up to 30kg.

The Toyota GR Corolla Morizo Edition also utilises the regular GR Corolla's 1.6-litre three-cylinder, paired to the firm's GR-Four four-wheel drive system.

However, the 'regular' car's peak torque of 370Nm has been upgraded to 400Nm. This peak torque is also now developed from 3,250rpm to 4,600rpm, instead of 3,000rpm to 5,550rpm.

The Toyota GR Corolla Morizo Edition still gets a six-speed manual transmission, however, lower-geared differential gears and closer ratios for the first, second, and third gears have been employed.

The rear seats of the limited edition car have also been removed to save a total of 30kg
Toyota has also applied an additional 3.3m of structural adhesive and added body reinforcement braces to the limited edition car for increased body rigidity. This body enhancement is also complemented with high-grip tyres which are widened by 10mm, and monotube shock absorbers, improving cornering stability and braking performance.

In the cabin, the Toyota GR Corolla Morizo Edition gets exclusive semi-bucket seats alongside a steering wheel and centre console upholstered in Ultrasuede.

The limited edition car is offered in an exclusive Matte Steel exterior paint option, and sports Morizo's signature on its front windshield.
