Singapore's public charging infrastructure has been given yet another boost, as Huawei and SP Mobility launched the country's first ultra-fast electric vehicle charging enabled with battery energy storage system (BESS) on Friday morning (6 February 2026) at Temasek Polytechnic.
The newly commissioned site integrates Huawei's latest liquid‑cooled, ultra‑fast direct current technology with a battery energy storage system. The BESS stores electricity when the charger is not in use and discharges it back during EV charging, reducing demand on the grid and enabling faster and more reliable charging.
Guests, alongside Baey Yam Keng, Minister of State for Culture, Community, and Youth of Singapore, were treated to a live demonstration of the chargers' prowess
And while this may not be the single largest public fast charging hub in Singapore (that claim to fame goes to Great World City's carpark), SP Mobility still has the largest public charging network and also the largest fast-charging public network in Singapore, with this latest addition bolstering the latter even further.
These new chargers have a maximum power rating of 480kW, making them one of the highest rated capacity public chargers currently available as of now. In addition, this site is also configured to operate at 400kW in line with on-site power availability, with actual charging speed determined by each vehicle's compatibility as well as other factors such as battery temperature.
For example, in a live demonstration at the unveiling, both the Zeekr 7X (DC max charging rate of 420kW) and the Lotus Emeya (DC max charging rate of 400kW, although the model has also logged a peak charging speed of 443kW) hit a peak charging rate of almost 350kW.
This ultra-fast charging hub provides drivers and fleet operators in the eastern region a place to charge their vehicles in quick time
This also supports the charging needs of commercial fleets, including electric heavy goods vehicles, and complements SP Mobility's partnership with Goldbell Group in supporting the electrification of commercial and heavy vehicles in Singapore.
And through this collaboration, Temasek Polytechnic also becomes the first non-residential location in the eastern region to offer ultra-fast EV charging, providing convenient access for everyday EV drivers, high-usage fleets, and electric heavy goods vehicles.
