In August every year, car enthusiasts from across the globe gather for the Concours d'Elegance at Pebble Beach, immersing themselves in a heady mix of automotive history and heritage, as well as exploring pioneering vehicles for the future. The BMW Group has created the 3.0 CSL Hommage R for this year's event and it celebrates both the 40th anniversary of BMW in North America, as well as the racing success of the BMW 3.0 CSL in 1975.

This racing focus is evident throughout the design and costruction of the 3.0 CSL Hommage R. With its principle of driver focus, the interior of the car has been designed beyond just its geometrical form. The designers have designed a driver's helmet, race suit and seat, enhancing the driver's direct perception.
The helmet visor assumes the function of a display, projecting information such as the car's speed, gear engaged and engine revs onto the driver's direct field of vision.
The Hommage R also showcases BMW's commitment to lightweight construction and technical refinement. A carbon fibre roll cage is integrated into the structure of the car's roof and side sections, forming the basis for the interior's singularly minimalist geometry. On the exterior, the front end is one of the broadest and lowest of any BMW, exuding power and athleticism. The muscular front end flows into a sweeping bonnet and long wheelbase, stretching the cars visual silhouette. At the rear, a large spoiler and carbon fibre double diffuser brim with aerodynamic sophistification.

1975 was a special year for BMW in North America when it founded the firm as the first official sales company outside of Europe. It was also the year BMW Motorsport found great sucess in American motor racing - with a specially made BMW 3.0 CSL - recording a historic triumph at the 12 hours of Sebring.
