The car was developed jointly by Skoda’s UK technical team, who are based in Milton Keynes, England, and performance software and tuning house REVO Technik. The Octavia vRS race car is based on the standard road car, but is almost 80mm lower and features a new sub-frame that houses a race prepared intercooler.
Under the bonnet, the car is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine similar to the Octavia vRS production car, but features a more advanced Garret turbo that produces 26-28 PSI of boost pressure. The unit has also been tuned to run on high-octane race fuel with water methanol mix instead of unleaded petrol, and this gives the car a total power output of 600bhp and 450nm of torque. Skoda has also enhanced the car’s safety by fitting a reinforced roll cage, parachute, fire extinguishers and window cage.

The attempt is in celebration of the 10th anniversary of Skoda’s vRS performance badge, and Skoda will enter the specially modified Octavia vRS at the Bonneville Speed Week, which will be held from August 13 to 20, in an attempt to break past the 320km/h barrier. The car will be entered in the 2.0-litre production car category, and will run the nine-mile Bonneville straight course.
