New ERP system to undergo trial run

Each group will get $1 million in seed funding 'to design, develop and demonstrate technological solutions' for the new system, which could charge motorists not only according to where they go, but also for the distances they clock.
The trial will last for a year and a half, and will include 'live' on-the-road testing to prove the robustness of the system. The new system is also likely to incorporate an intelligent in-vehicle unit that can notify drivers when they are approaching a road that is going to be charged.
LTA said it will assess the performance of the various solutions at the end of the trial, to determine whether an appropriate technological solution is available and can form the basis of a next generation ERP system.
It added the development of the project is in its very early stages and that the next generation ERP system, if technically feasible, is still some years away before it is ready to be launched and implemented.
The LTA have appointed Kapsch TrafficCom, MHI Engine System Asia & NCS, ST Electronics (Info-Comm Systems) & IBM Singapore, and Watchdata Technologies & Beijing Watchdata System to conduct trials for the next generation ERP system, starting from next month.
