New Marina South Pier station on the North-South Line opens on Sunday

The Straits Times reported that the Marina South Pier station, the southern-most stop on the North-South Line, will open for passenger service this Sunday. The new station will serve a ferry terminal at Marina South Pier, as well as future developments in the Marina Bay Downtown area.

Those who work at the Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore may also find it convenient to take the train, as the station is about 600 metres from the cruise facility.

On weekday morning peak hours, train service to the Marina South Pier station will run at eight to 12-minute intervals. This works out to one in every four southbound trains. The other three will turn around at Marina Bay station so that commuters on the more crowded stretches of the line can enjoy a higher frequency. At other times, including weekends and public holidays, train services to the new station will run at 15-minute intervals.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) said it will work with SMRT to improve train frequencies at times when there is higher demand, such as when ships call at the cruise centre during off-peak periods or during the annual Kusu pilgrimage season.

LTA will also work with SMRT to review train operations in the future based on the ridership for the station and developments near the station.
