Ford has revealed an ultra high-performance Ford Pro Electric SuperVan at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed, adding yet another vehicle, and the first all-electric one, to its SuperVan Series.
Just what does Ford mean by ultra high-performance? What about approximately 2,000bhp, all delivered from a total of four electric motors, animated via a 50kWh liquid-cooled battery and a bespoke control system?
This performance, Ford states, is enough to give to Ford Pro Electric SuperVan a sub two-second zero to 100km/h acceleration time.
The performance van is said to be based on a purpose-built, track-ready chassis, which utilises components from the recently unveiled E-Transit Custom. Exterior styling meanwhile, takes inspiration from the Ford Transit van, although this performance van clearly sets itself apart thanks to those outlandish wheel arches, muscular style and a one-off livery.
The floorpalan of the E-Transit Custom meets a steel spaceframe and lightweight composite body panels, alongside an unequal-length double wishbone suspension at each corner for control of all that immense power.
And as you would expect of any good van, the Ford Pro Electric SuperVan continues to sport a loadspace behind the driver, accessible via a door at the bodyside, for easy loading and unloading of cargo.
The links between the Ford Pro Electric SuperVan and the rest of the firm's commercial fleet is more than tenuous: It also comes with Ford's SYNC in-cab touchscreen technology, allowing it to keep its driver informed thanks to connected tech.
So, drivers in the Ford Pro Electric SuperVan will be able to plot a route, find a charger, connect to WiFi and make phone calls - all via the SYNC screen, as and when they decide to take a break from hustling up hillclimbs of course.
The van is additionally said to offer selectable drive modes and regenerative braking technologies similar to those on Ford production electric vehicles, although we doubt that a production road-legal Ford van will come with the 'Tyre Cleaning' mode that the Ford Pro Electric SuperVan offers.
Put the vehicle in this mode and it will fully brake one axle while spinning the other, creating impressive burnouts on the front or rear axles that help clean and warm the tyres before performance runs.
