Audi A6 2.0 TFSI Multitronic 'Plus' (A) Review

The Audi A6 has been a compelling player in the executive sedan segment with its blue-blooded German pedigree and premium underpinnings. Naturally, the modern and contemporary look has a big part to play too.
While you would expect the facelift version, the car you see here isn't. It is, rather, a 'kit upgrade', and we reckon this could be a 'last hoorah' for the current version (codenamed C7) before the new range lands on our shores.
Up close and Personal
Audi's mainstays (such as the A3, A4, A5, A6 and A8) have always endowed the classic, unmistakable shapes of their respective genres - and the A6 sedan no less. Unlike the A7 Sportback, which combines the silhouette of a sedan with a fastback design, the A6 makes no such attempt.

That is not to say the A6 is any less attractive. In fact, like how ironed-on creases on work pants look the business, the sharp folds on the bonnet and around its body give the A6 a smart and svelte look.
Besides the extra inches on the wheels, the A6, in this 'Plus' variant, takes on a slew of tech gadgets, such as built-in navigation, Park Assist and sensor-operated electric boot release to make it more complete than before.

The Drive
Ingolstadt's base A6 is powered by a 2.0-litre plant capable of dishing out 180bhp and 320Nm of torque. While it doesn't seem like a lot, these figures are enough for you to whizz past traffic and ensure that you're in time for business meetings.
2.0-litre unit may be the smallest in capacity within the current A6 model range, but it's capable of strong, gutsy performance
Power from the 2.0-litre unit is handled by Audi's Multitronic CVT transmission, which has eight 'gear ratios' to choose from in manual mode.
Credit where it's due, the gearbox is one of the best CVTs we have tried lately, with an instinctive character that makes it more engaging to work with.

On the downside, ride comfort on the executive sedan has taken a slight dent with the large 20-inch rims, although the slightly harsher ride can hardly be described as punishing.
The Multitronic CVT has eight 'gear ratios' to work with, though we'll gladly leave it to its own devices
Conclusion
With a longer list of standard equipment, Audi's executive sedan has become more persuasive with its all-rounded package. That said, at $249,250 (as of 24th October 2014), the dolled up A6 'Plus' costs a princely $16k more than its 'plain Jane' base sibling.
Nevertheless, we can't exactly put a price to the convenience of having the built-in navigation as well as the spruced up look, which puts it in a better light.
