Suzuki Motor Corporation has launched the all new Alto minicar in Japan. While adopting a simple and stylish design with the exterior emphasising quality and proportion, and the interior combining design and function, the all new eighth generation Alto also features a roomy cabin space with the longest cabin length in its class, thanks to its stretched long wheelbase of 2,460mm.
The new Alto has adopted a newly developed platform for the first time and achieved a weight reduction of 60kg by thoroughly reducing its weight. Along with the enhanced efficiency of the powertrain, it has realised fuel consumption of 37km/L, the lowest among non-hybrid petrol vehicle in Japan.
Power comes from an improved 660cc three-cylinder engine mated to either a five-speed manual or CVT transmission in a number of configurations. By incorporating advanced safety technologies such as the Radar Brake Support collision-mitigation braking system, the Alto has evolved in fuel efficiency, driving performance, design, and safety performance, while brushing up basic performance including the ease of maneuverability and handling.
