Mercedes-Benz has officially launched the all new Vito van today. Now into its third generation, the Vito offers unparalled levels of equipment and caters to a growing group of customers seeking increased types of usage for their vans.
The Vito Panel Van is the only model in its class which is available in three vehicle lengths, compact, long or extra-long, depending on the space requirements of the customer. Also a first in this segment, the Vito comes with a choice of front, rear or all-wheel drive to allow customers to choose the type of vehicle best suited for their needs.
Powered by a 2.2-litre in-line four, the van produces 136bhp at 3,800rpm. Mated to a 7G-TRONIC Plus automatic transmission, the Vito accelerates from nought to 100km/h in 12.8 seconds. The van is also able to achieve an excellent fuel consumption of 6L/100km. This is around 20 percent less than the outgoing model. The engine of the Vito is also Euro 6 emission compliant with a low CO2 emission of 158g/km.
The design of the Vito is now sleeker than before with a drag coefficient (Cd) value of 0.32. In the safety aspect, the Vito is the only van to provide up to eight airbags in the vehicle for the Tourer model. This includes windowbags in the rear and thorax/pelvis sidebags in the front. In addition, the Vito is equipped with essential assistance systems such as Active Parking Assist, Distance Warning function and Blind Spot Assist, which issues a warning if there are other vehicles in the blind spot when the driver changes lanes.
An interesting feature to note is the optional Intelligent Light System (ILS) which consists of LED indicators, daytime running lights, low-beam head lamps with cornering function. The head lights adapt for driving on motorways or country roads by varying the light distribution depending on road speed.
At the same time, Cycle and Carriage also showcased an upcoming variant of the Vito, the luxurious V-Class V220 CDI which can be registered either as a bus or a passenger car. Other models on display at the launch event include the Pro-Line version of the Vito and the Citan 109 CDI Panel Van.
Prices for the Mercedes-Benz Vito 114 CDI Panel Van start from $125,988, including COE and a three-year exclusive warranty or 100,000km, whichever is earlier from the date of registration.
