The new Toyota Land Cruiser gets several improvements to its GA-F ladder frame chassis for unrivalled off-road ability.

07 Aug 2021 | International News : Japan

Toyota has launched the new Land Cruiser.

The new Land Cruiser retains the same total length and wheelbase, and the same approach, departure, and ramp breakover angle as the previous generation, and so inherits the 200 Series' ease of handling and off-road performance.

Increased use of high-tensile steel and aluminium means the new body is 200kg lighter than before
Design-wise, the new Land Cruiser follows in the footsteps of previous generations of station wagon-type Land Cruisers by locating the cabin rearward on the body. Both the radiator grille and the headlights are positioned high-up, while the lower parts of both front and rear bumpers have been deliberately shaped to avoid obstacles.

On the hood of the new car rests a large depression, which improves the car's collision safety performance and forward visibility. A new exterior color, Precious White Pearl is also now available.

Underneath that body rests Toyota's GA-F ladder frame platform, now manufactured with new welding technology which Toyota claims, has improved collision safety performance, quietness, and ride quality.

The cabin of the new Land Rover is equipped with a high-resolution 12.3-inch widescreen touch display
Increased use of high-tensile steel here, and an aluminum bonnet, roof, and door panels bring the Land Cruiser's body weight down by 200kg, while the power train has also been moved 70mm rearward and 28mm downward to improve handling.

A vehicle also gets a new high-mount double-wishbone front and trailing-link rigid-axle rear suspension system for improved off-road performance.

Under the bonnet, the new Land Cruiser also gets a newly developed 3.5-litre V6 twin-turbo petrol engine, with a maximum output of 409bhp and maximum torque of 650Nm. This engine is paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission.

A high-resolution 12.3-inch widescreen touch display is available as a manufacturer's option in the cabin of the new Land Cruiser. It will display navigation, audio, air-conditioning, and off-road performance data in an easy-to-understand manner.

The GR Sport model comes with a unique radiator grille, front and rear bumpers, as well as wheel arch moldings finished in black
A GR Sport model of the Land Cruiser is also being launched.

It comes with a new Electronic-Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System that electronically controls each front and rear stabiliser independently for increased suspension performance both off and on-road.

The GR Sport variant also gets various exterior enhancements including a different radiator grille, front and rear bumpers, and wheel arch moldings finished in black.
