First gaining popularity in the USA after WW II, the sport has grown steadily with hundreds of drag strips around the world. Most drag races begin with a standing start and last between 4 and 17 seconds, with finishing speeds ranging from 80 to over 330 miles per hour. The current world record for a quarter mile standing start pass is 4.428 seconds set by Tony Schumacher.
